Woodie Long: A Journey from the Fields to Folk Art Fame

Woodie Long is an American folk painter whose work used bright and cheerful colors and who came from little nothing to create some of the most captivating pieces of artwork. Long was born in 1942 in Plant City, Florida, and his life was essentially filled with the fabrics of rural America. Born in a migrant farmer family, he was raised travelling across the South and therefore could observe the cyclical character of life and value earthly beauty. Although living an adventurous life traveling from city to city and experiencing the rigors of urban life certainly would have an impact on his artistic outlook.
